With these simple health tips I want to help you ignore the diets and headlines, and finally trust your body to tell you what it needs. You deserve to know what it is like to improve your mental and physical health with food. Even small changes have life altering potential. Whether it’s your first day at the gym after years of avoiding it, the first time you opt for a home cooked meal over take-out, or looking in the mirror and seeing beauty where before you only saw failure – those are moments to celebrate! I’ll save the science and the research for another time. If you’re just starting your health journey and want some encouragement and ideas to keep the momentum, this post is for you!
#1 Love Yourself
This is #1 for a reason, friends! I want the negative self-talk to stop. We’ve all had a bad day, eaten poorly, and then berated ourselves for taking a step back. Hear me loud and clear – this is not a race and it is not pass or fail. So don’t let one bad decision derail you. Work on silencing the doubt and begin to mindfully change your inner dialogue.
#2 Drink Water
Up to 60% of your body is water so I’m not exaggerating when I say hydration is key to your success. Water helps flush out toxins, makes your skin glow, and boosts energy levels. Dehydration is often confused with hunger which can cause you to overeat when you’re actually thirsty. You need to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day. This recommendation only increases with physical activity. Quench is an amazing book about the benefits of drinking water.
#3 Small Steps, Big Results
When starting to eat healthy it is common to go all in, all at once. This seems great, but it skips what I think is a crucial step – making small changes to build sustainable habits. A lot of diets fail because they are drastic and give you a set of rules rather than the knowledge to make informed eating decisions. When you learn why eating real and whole foods is better for your body and then personally experience the positive effects, it becomes second nature.
#4 Upgrade Your Pantry
The pantry is where we go when we haven’t grocery shopped and are desperate for some meal inspiration. Stock yours with healthy staples so in times of need you don’t sacrifice health for convenience. If you need some ideas, check out my Whole Radiance Grocery Shopping List!
#5 Support System
Who you surround yourself with matters. Find at least one person who understands your why and reminds you on difficult days. Sharing the joy of your accomplishments is a meaningful way to connect. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or health coach just find your person!
#6 Move For 30 Minutes
Remember it is a privilege to move your body. Dance in the kitchen, walk outside, sign up for a workout class, practice yoga – the options are endless. Just love yourself enough to dedicate 30 minutes a day to becoming stronger mentally and physically.
I hope these health tips reassure you that small but consistent choices have the ability to change your life! The power found in simplicity is a beautiful reminder that health doesn’t have to be complicated. So celebrate the little victories, find joy in the everyday, and know that you deserve to be on this journey! Keep me updated so I can cheer you on every step of the way!
